What is FIMABIS?
The Andalusian Public Foundation for Health and Biomedicine Research in Málaga (FIMABIS, for its initials in Spanish) is an organisation dedicated to seamlessly integrating basic, clinical and public health research by promoting, conducting and disseminating scientific research in the biomedicine, clinical care and biotechnology areas. It provides effective support for innovation in the life sciences and serves as a link between health and research centres and their social and geographical setting.
FIMABIS is currently the managing entity of the Biomedical Research Institute of Málaga and Nanomedicine Platform (IBIMA Plataforma BIONAND, for its initials in Spanish) and represents it.
IBIMA Plataforma BIONAND is a Health Research Institute created on 19 March 2012 by virtue of the agreement signed between the Regional Ministry of Health; the Regional Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Science; the Andalusian Health Service; the University of Málaga; and the Andalusian Public Foundation for Health and Biomedicine Research in Málaga. In addition, it is one of the more than 30 institutes accredited for health research in Spain by the Carlos III Institute of Health.
The Oncology Research Centre of Málaga (CIMO, for its initials in Spanish) forms part of the IBIMA Plataforma BIONAND and is managed by FIMABIS, which is its legal entity.

Aims of the Foundation
- Promote scientific, biomedical and biotechnological research within the scope of Spain’s National Health System, making the foundation’s resources available to researchers for both research and training activities through scholarships and grants to research personnel and grant programs for the use of large research infrastructures
- Manage, coordinate and advise on educational and research activities
- Ensure respect for the ethical principles of research in coordination with hospital research ethics committees
- Facilitate the channelling of any financial contributions (monetary or in-kind) to health institutions in a smooth, transparent manner
- Streamline and organise income and expenditures aimed at fulfilling the foundation’s purpose, seeking the best possible administration of them
- Encourage cooperation among basic, clinical and public health research teams
- Disseminate research activities and results through the transfer of biomedical and biotechnological research results for the benefit of society as well as promote closer ties between the health institutions in the foundation’s scope of action and the public, organising all kinds of publications, courses and other research-related activities
- Optimise research resources by fostering improvements in the technology and infrastructure of healthcare institutions within the foundation’s scope of action
- Promote the fundraising necessary to meet the foundation’s objective and purposes
- Foster continuing education and postgraduate training in biomedical and biotechnological research
- Conduct all activities that are in line with contributing to foundation's objective and purposes as well as play a role in all areas related to these objectives

Proactively support and promote R&D&I of excellence in health in the autonomous community of Andalusia in general and in the province of Málaga in particular
Guarantee
Guarantee equality and equity in access for professionals in the Andalusian Public Healthcare System (SSPA, for its initials in Spanish) in the province of Málaga to the portfolio of management and support services of the SSPA’s Network of Research Management Foundations
Boost
Boost the applicability of research results in the medical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry and/or clinical practice through management of the protection and transfer of results
Develop
Develop a policy of actively seeking public and private funding, maximising the fundraising capacity with the ultimate goal of fostering increased scientific competitiveness as well as the sustainability and self-financing of FIMABIS
Strengthen
Strengthen the conduct of clinical trials and observational studies within FIMABIS’ scope of action, guaranteeing maximum respect for ethical principles and promoting mechanisms for their effective control

Foster the training of professionals as well as the development, mobility and networking of talent and creativity both nationally and internationally
